NCES, NSF, OERI, and the TIMSS ISC believe it is important for the districts and states participating in the Benchmarking Study to have a forum for meeting and discussing common issues and concerns. With this goal in mind, the TIMSS 1999 Network was launched and has met semi-annually as the study has progressed. It is comprised of representatives from each of the participating states and districts and coordinating organizations, as well as representatives from a variety of organizations and agencies focused on improving mathematics and science education in the United States. The priority activities of the Network are information sharing, capacity building, and developing data release strategies, with the ultimate hope that this joint effort will lead to the improvement of mathematics and science teaching and learning.
